Dontá L. Wilson ‘97 currently serves as board Vice Chair. Wilson is chief consumer and small business banking officer, and a member of the operating council for Truist Financial Corporation. 

At Truist, Wilson leads 22,000 teammates who serve retail, premier and small business clients through mobile and online banking, multiple virtual service centers, and more than 2,000 community banking branches  across the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Texas. He oversees core deposit and loan products, which include mortgage and credit approval. In addition, Wilson is responsible for consumer capital markets and several national consumer lending businesses, including LightStream, Service Finance Company, Sheffield Financial, Dealer Financial Services, and Regional Acceptance Corporation. He also oversees enterprise marketing, client analytics, client experience strategy, and digital banking, transformation, and innovation.

Wilson was appointed to the executive leadership team in 2016, and he has served in various leadership roles during a more than 25-year career at Truist and its predecessor.

He also serves on the board of directors of Signet Jewelers (NYSE:SIG). Among many recognitions, Wilson was selected as one of Savoy’s Top Black Executives in 2022 and was chosen Digital Banker of the Year by American Banker in 2021. Passionate about being active in his community, Wilson serves on many nonprofit, education, and community service boards. He is founder and board member of I Am My Brother’s Keeper inner city mentor program, and is on the board of Samaritan’s Feet.

Wilson earned his bachelor’s degree in management from UNC Charlotte and an MBA from the University of Maryland. He is also a graduate of the Tuck Executive Program at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and the Truist Banking School at Wake Forest University.

Wilson was appointed to the UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees in 2021 to a four-year term by the UNC Board of Governors.
