Honoring Those Who Served on Veterans Day

Categories: Chancellor's Messages

Dear Niner Nation,

As we celebrate Veterans Day weekend, I encourage you to take a few moments to honor the veterans and active-duty personnel who are working among us and sitting in our classrooms.

At UNC Charlotte, we have a proud history as a military-friendly school, dating back to our founding in 1946 to provide educational opportunities for veterans returning home from World War II. This tradition continues, with Charlotte nationally ranked in several publications, including U.S. News & World Report, as a top university for veterans and military-affiliated students.

Among our students this fall, 623 veterans are enrolled at the University. In addition, there are 803 students who are military-affiliated, and 219 who are cadets with the 49er Battalion Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC Detachment 592.

We honor our veterans and military-affiliated students, faculty, staff, and alumni for their invaluable contributions and the significant impact they have on our University. Their unique perspectives and dedicated service enrich our community in profound ways, enhancing classroom discussions and inspiring us all to embody resilience, teamwork and leadership.

Please join Military and Veteran Services for a series of events next week to celebrate veterans, including the annual Military Appreciation Breakfast on Veterans Day. To all of the veterans among us, thank you for your service.

Go Niners!

Sincerely,

Sharon L. Gaber
