Betty M. Doster

Special Assistant to the Chancellor for External Relations and Partnerships

Betty Doster serves as the special assistant to the chancellor for External Relations and Partnerships at UNC Charlotte, a role she has held since December 2010. She is charged with advancing, implementing and communicating the University’s strategic direction through fostering, supporting and expanding relationships with local, regional, state and federal governmental officials and agencies including economic development partners.  She is a key link for the University to the business community. Doster has more than 35 years of experience building positive partnerships and sustainable relationships with leaders in the private and public sectors and across all industries.

While at UNC Charlotte, she advocated for the completion of the CATS Blue Line Extension from Uptown Charlotte to campus and co-chaired the campuswide three-year implementation team. She has successfully bolstered the University’s effectiveness with the North Carolina General Assembly, which has resulted in funding for key initiatives at UNC Charlotte. She developed and executed an ongoing engagement program that has built the University’s impact within the Charlotte region. Additionally, Doster serves as an effective liaison with the UNC Board of Governors and as strategic counsel to the chancellor and vice chancellor for University Advancement. She is a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet.

Doster holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from UNC-Chapel Hill. She serves the greater Charlotte community through a number of professional associations and memberships. She is the past chair of the Advocacy Committee of the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance and serves on its Board of Directors. She was appointed by Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles to the Charlotte Moves Committee to study and recommend solutions for reducing congestion and improving all modes of transportation and mobility. 

Doster is a member of the 2025 PGA Championship committee to be hosted in Charlotte next year, and also a member of the Women’s Impact Fund and a lifetime member of Good Friends. She recently joined Women Executives. Doster previously served on the boards of the YWCA of the Central Carolinas and the First Tee of Charlotte.
