In 2021-22, UNC Charlotte continued to grow its research profile and enhance its infrastructure to support sponsored research, powering the future for the region and beyond. This included the selection of 17 research areas of focus and distinction. The University also will expand on its development of a novel COVID-19 wastewater surveillance program by creating a new interdisciplinary research center to power pandemic preparedness and prevention.
To support STEM education and capital improvements, Charlotte received a record $134 million state investment. Further, more than $5.8 million in gifts will help the University attract nationally recognized researchers and scholars.
