Chancellor GaborDear Niner Nation,

We are pushing forward on a new vision to power the future for our fast-growing region as an emerging top-tier global research university. With rising research funding, new discoveries and awards, and graduate and undergraduate programs surging to national prominence, Charlotte is climbing the ranks.

Every member of Niner Nation had a role in our success over the past year.

As we close out the 2022-23 academic year, there’s so much for us to celebrate. Together, we are moving toward the vision outlined in “Shaping What’s Next,” our bold 10-year strategic plan.

Highlights include:

  • Ranking No. 4 nationally in the U.S. News & World Report online bachelor’s programs rankings
  • A historic gift of up to $23 million from the Mebane Foundation that will support teacher literacy training, engagement and research
  • National Science Foundation rankings that show the University has risen among the top third of all U.S. universities for research expenditures
  • A Charlotte 49ers record eight team conference titles, positioning our teams for more success as we move officially to the American Athletic Conference
  • Top national awards, including a University record for NSF CAREER Awards, our fourth Barry Goldwater Scholarship recipient, and three faculty Fulbright Scholars
  • Awarding more than 8,300 degrees and graduate certificates

To support our strategic goals, we embarked on several key initiatives, including:

  • Delivering academic programs, including a fully online MBA and the first sports analytics program in North Carolina
  • Embarking on an updated comprehensive campus master plan
  • Supporting economic development for our region and state through BATT CAVE, North Carolina’s first academic research center for electric vehicle battery research, and through CIPHER
  • Aligning Charlotte educational and outreach efforts through the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation
