Research & Discovery
For 2022-23, UNC Charlotte continued to make great strides to becoming a globally recognized top-tier research university. The 2022-23 year will be remembered for the University’s rising national and global rankings, and the initiation of new research and discoveries. To serve the region, Charlotte announced the Battery Complexity, Autonomous Vehicle and Electrification Research Center, or BATT CAVE, the first university-led research center in the state focused on advancing the fast-growing field of battery technology, safety and electrification.
Charlotte faculty and researchers also continued to make their mark, announcing new discoveries, and offering their expertise to national media in a variety of subjects. Among the highlights, a University record four National Science Foundation Early CAREER awards, which support early career faculty . Charlotte faculty have received 16 NSF CAREER awards over the past five years.
