Championship Athletics

As new members of the American Athletic Conference for the 2023-24 academic year, the Charlotte 49ers demonstrated they were up to the challenge of competing on a larger stage.

For 2023-24, five Charlotte teams won conference titles: men’s soccer, men’s tennis, softball and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, tied for the most of any AAC team. Eight teams also competed in NCAA postseason competition, pushing the program to its best-ever finish in the Learfield Directors’ Cup. Student-athletes excelled in the classroom, too, earning a highest cumulative GPA in fall and spring semesters with 90 completing their degrees in 2023-24. 

With the Phase I expansion of Jerry Richardson Stadium approved by the UNC Board of Governors in April, Charlotte 49ers football is positioned for success, as new head coaches in men’s basketball, women’s basketball and softball offer new leadership for the future.
