John A. Bailey '94

John Anderson Bailey ’94 is the owner of Sammy’s Neighborhood Pub, an iconic mainstay in downtown Belmont, and Homes by John Bailey, a remodeling and general contracting company based in Mount Holly.

Bailey has significant experience in management and commercial and residential real estate. Previously, he served as vice president of William Trotter Company, a home building company in Charlotte. His career also includes experience in automotive dealership management.

He has served on several boards, including the Gaston County Economic Development Commission and the Gaston County Planning Board, where he served as chair. He also was appointed by Governor Pat McCrory to the North Carolina Workforce Development Board.

He served for 10 years as a member of the North Carolina Air National Guard.

He holds an associate degree from Gaston Community College and a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology and construction management from UNC Charlotte.

Active in the life of the University, he frequently opens his business to alumni events and supports the Charlotte 49ers on and off the field.

His son is a student at UNC Charlotte.

Bailey was first appointed to the Board of Trustees in July 2022 by North Carolina House of Representatives Speaker Tim Moore to fill an unexpired one-year term. He was reappointed to a four-year term in July 2023.
