UNC Charlotte’s governance includes senior leadership—such as the Chancellor, Board of Trustees, and Chancellor’s Cabinet—along with key groups like the Faculty Council, Staff Council, Alumni Board, Board of Visitors, Foundation Board, and Student Government Association.

As part of the UNC System, Senior Leadership at UNC Charlotte is comprised of the Chancellor, the Board of Trustees, and the Chancellor’s Cabinet. The Faculty Council, Staff Council, UNC Charlotte Alumni Board, Board of Visitors, UNC Charlotte Foundation Board and the Student Government Association are also involved in governance and decision-making.

UNC Charlotte’s Faculty Council provides leadership for faculty governance. The Council, which includes one member of each academic unit on campus, is charged with setting faculty policies to ensure the highest quality instruction and scholarship at UNC Charlotte. Debra Smith is the current Faculty Council president. Newton actively shares in University governance, taking a non-voting seat at open sessions of UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees meetings.

UNC Charlotte’s Staff Council invests its energy in maintaining a high-quality working environment for the University’s staff members. The Council works with University administration on matters that concern the staff and hosts a number of events each year to build community among University staff. Jessica Waldman is the Staff Council Chair. She actively shares in University governance, taking a non-voting seat at open sessions of UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees meetings.
