Following up on yesterday’s events
Dear Niner Nation,
Yesterday afternoon was alarming and stressful for many members of our campus community as CMPD and our campus Police Department investigated a false report of potential gunfire in the College of Education Building.
While the scene was quickly determined to be safe by law enforcement, it was still a scary situation, especially for many who were here on April 30, 2019, or who have experienced other similar traumatic events.
As we always do, we are assessing this event for important lessons learned. We will use that information to continue to improve our service to the campus community.
Your safety and well-being are our top priority. If you need support, there are resources available to you, and I encourage you to reach out to them:
- Faculty and staff, please contact the Employee Assistance Program and the Headspace Care app.
- Students, please reach out to the Student Health Center, Counseling and Psychological Services or the Center for Integrated Care.
- CAPS is also offering focused support through 4 p.m. today:
- Same-day urgent individual appointments – These are offered in-person or via Zoom. You can access these by going to the Price Center or calling 704-687-0311.
- A grounding/mindfulness room in the Price Center with activities for those who would prefer not to engage verbally.
- The Center for Integrated Care is also hosting in-person or virtual drop in hours today from noon until 4 p.m.
Additionally, to ensure you always receive text alerts in a timely manner, please review your cell phone information in Banner. Please also familiarize yourself with the resources available on the Emergency Management website to help understand what to do in emergencies, including for lockdown, seek shelter and evacuation directions.
Thank you for being a part of Niner Nation and helping us continue to create a better, safer and more supportive community.
Sincerely,
Sharon L. Gaber
Chancellor
