W. Henry Atkins

Henry Atkins is a seasoned real estate developer, entrepreneur and community leader with a long-standing commitment to Charlotte and UNC Charlotte. A Charlotte native and Myers Park High School graduate, Atkins built a distinguished career in real estate development, investment and franchise operations. He has held leadership roles in numerous ventures including Atkins Properties, TAG Ventures and The Atkins Group, the latter of which he sold to Cousins Properties in 1999. As Senior Vice President at Cousins, he led regional operations and co-developed Gateway Village, a $220 million urban mixed-use project in partnership with Bank of America.

Atkins has been deeply engaged in the life of UNC Charlotte. He is an inaugural member of the University’s Board of Visitors and has served in numerous leadership capacities, including chairing the University Foundation board. His service extends to the Belk College of Business, the Childress Klein Center for Real Estate, the Athletic Foundation and the Library. He was honored with the Belk College’s Honorary Alumni Award for his dedication to the university’s mission.

Beyond his professional and university service, Atkins has been a devoted youth basketball coach, winning “Coach of the Year” at the Dowd YMCA, and has supported countless civic and charitable organizations. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, he also holds advanced degrees from the University of Idaho and MIT. His career and service reflect a deep commitment to economic development, education and the Charlotte community.
