The Charlotte AI Institute (CLTAI²) is a centralized hub that amplifies the university’s long-standing expertise in AI across disciplines ranging from computing and engineering to business, healthcare, humanities, arts, and leadership. Launched in February 2025 under the direction of Dr. Stephanie Schuckers and Dr. George Banks, it connects experts across disciplines to advance responsible, ethical AI with real impact.

The CLTAI2 institutionalizes UNC Charlotte’s role as a regional and national AI powerhouse, enhancing collaboration across disciplines and with industry, government, and nonprofits and creating synergies to tackle complex challenges in healthcare, ethical AI, environmental science, leadership development, and more.

Academic degrees in AI, as well as online certificates and professional development opportunities, will prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s workforce.
